Description
if you have a vintage microcomputer needing an original keyboard, this item will only make yours even more valuable because of when it was manufactured. As you know, they just don't come any better than this in the world of collecting and I even have the shipping box in which it was sent to me from the factory. If you are willing to make me an reasonable offer, I will consider it carefully. 0 and 0 offers are not reasonable for this relic in pristine condition. If you have been looking for a vintage keyboard to pair with your original Apple I, this might be what you need. This is a New Old Stock NOS Clare-Pendar Teletypewriter 53 Key Keyboard from around 1973. The PCB shows "issue 1971" and the date code on the white ceramic IC is1973 - 7345. Clare-Pendar was a General Instruments Co by then according to the label on the box it came in and GI may have made the encoder IC present on this keyboard. I removed the static foam and tested it hooked up to 2 HP Hex digit displays. Since there are 7 bits for the switch location, these displays show 0-7 on the MSD most significant digit and 0-F on the LSD least significant digit. These correspond to the data sheet binary codes - i.e., 0110001 reads out as 31 for the "1" key. I tested the "strobe" by hooking it up to an NPN transistor driver and LED as seen in the last 2 photos and I hooked up the "parity" line to bit 4 of the MSD and they work as can be seen. I have more photos to show this but I'm limited to 12 by eBay.
I have 2 data sheets 708-116 and 708-117 that were present in the box that I'm including. The keyboard connection scheme lines up to the model K353 but not the K453 and I wired up my test breadboard using that data sheet so it is the K353. I noted that the card edge termination detail may be from the view of the edge connector so be sure to observe the traces on the keyboard PCB. I will send that connector and another one I have but the HP displays and breadboard ARE NOT INCLUDED. I have shown one picture on the solder side that shows an area where the traces are darker but they are not damaged. Also, the area under the foam protection pad is also somewhat darker but the keyboard is working properly so that area is also intact.
If you have any questions or want to see something else not shown in enough detail, please send me a message and I'll try to do what you are asking.
I am selling this "AS IS" and NO RETURNS.
