Description
Hi, I am Steve Pfeiffer, author of the bookCollecting Case knives - Identification and Price Guide
. I have been collecting, buying, and selling CASE and other brands of vintage and modern pocket knives since 1973.
I am offering some fine collectible pocket knives for sale. See my other auction listings for more collectible knives.
This is a vintage CASE P172 “Buffalo” pocket knife.
The tang stamp is CASE XX over P172 – HANDMADE IN U.S.A. on back tang.
Below the HANDMADE IN U.S.A., there are no dots, indicating a 1965-1969 knife.
Case introduced the P172 Buffalo in 1969, so it was only made for about two years with this tang stamp.
The knife is 5-3/8” closed with brass liners and pinned oval CASE shield.
The blade steel is CV (carbon) steel.
The blade has strong snap with no wobble.
The handles are smooth Pakkawood, no cracks or damage.
Never used or sharpened.
As the photos show, the blade has significant rust specking from improper storage.
The backspring has pitting.
Includes the original CASE XX BUFFALO wooden box – the box has the usual scratches, dings, and minor damage to the front left corner (see photos).

Sales to USA Locations Only - Buyer must be at least 18 years of age.
Some states have started requiring eBay to collect sales tax on items going to these states. eBay has a list of those states that have started collecting sales tax in 2019 on online purchases. This is nothing I have control over and the sales tax is automatically added to your total by eBay if you reside in one of these states.
