Description

Judy Ann
is a 5 1/4" jointed all bisque doll with a stiff neck that was manufactured by Nancy Ann Storybook Dolls circa 1938.  She is incised "Judy Ann USA" on her back.  Though undressed, she is detailed with molded hair, molded socks, and painted white boots.  She still wears her discolored and dusty panties secured with a brass safety pin.  I have included the white felt coat and felt hat that she wore, though these articles of clothing may not be original to her.  Both pieces of clothing are soiled with gentle flea bites.  Judy Ann's painted white boots sustain flaking and wear.  She retains her dark red lips, delicately painted black lashes, and large "soulful" painted black eyes highlighted with pale blue.  Her blonde mohair wig appears to be original though it is messy, has thinned, and has left glue residue on her scalp.  Her jointed bisque body remains fairly sturdy though its bisque sustains roughage and manufacturing imperfections, more notably around its joints.  Common to these early dolls--  Though she needs cleaning and redressing, Judy Ann is a harder to find Nancy Ann storybook mold.  To borrow from Elaine M. Pardee, she is a "charismatic little treasure."
